Year 4

As this week is e-safety week, the children have been looking at how to keep themselves online.

We have talked about social media and some of the apps and programmes they might use.

We discovered that we are all safe online by making sure that we:

Didn’t use our full names

Didn’t put location settings on

Didn’t have pictures of ourselves with our uniform on

Didn’t have anything on pictures that would give away our location

We made hats with ideas of things we could and couldn’t put on our social media to show that we wouldn’t wear them in public so why put it online?

Today we created a Labyrinth for the Minotaur in the story of Theseus and the Minotaur.

After we described what it would be like to be trapped inside our mazes when we could here the mighty Minotaur getting closer.

The last few weeks we have been making Ancient Greek theatre masks. focusing on emotions such as sadness anger and confusion we designed and created a Paper Mache mask.

Here are some of the emotions we used.

We had a fun packed day last Friday with Portals to the Past.

Not only did we dress up as Ancient Greeks and learn about the history of Ancient Greece and its people but we became a Greek army and competed in a Greek Olympic games.

A huge thank you to Ian (or Polly as we know him) from Portals to the Past who was a fantastic teacher and great fun.

The last two days in Maths we have been looking at addition of numbers with up to 4 digits.

Miss Whitmore and Miss Hampson have given us the two challenges below to complete.

We worked well in pairs and managed to find lots of answers. We know there are many more answers out there…. can you find any?

She has written an excellent newspaper report on the story of Icarus.

On Tuesday we had another visit from the staff from Moorside High School to teach us about sound.

We experimented with tuning forks and listened to each other through a cup and string.

We now know that vibrations cause sound waves which travel to our ears through the air particles.

Next week we will be looking at the different parts of the ear and how it helps us to understand the sound waves.

This week has been filled with super maths work.

During our inspirational maths week we have been looking at challenges which have tested our brains to the max!

We have discussed that we need to take our time with maths, keep trying even when we find it difficult and help our brains grow by making mistakes and correcting them.
