A’maze’ing Week in Year 418-10-2019 | 15:29:51 | No Comments

This week in year 4 we have been looking at the story of Theseus and the Minotaur.

We did some freeze frames to retell the story and thought about the characters thoughts and feelings during key moments of the story.

Then we made our own maze (Labyrinth) and wrote a description of what it would be like inside.

In Computing we looked at ‘copyrights’. We discussed what it means to copy something and how you may be breaking the law by doing so. Working in groups, we discussed different scenarios we may be in when looking at using someones work from the internet and what we would need to do to not break copyright laws.

Week 6!11-10-2019 | 13:41:46 | No Comments

This week in year 4 we have been looking at negative numbers in maths. It was tricky to begin with but we did an excellent lesson linked to geography where we looked at the coldest temperatures from around the world. This helped us to see that the further away from 0 we went the colder the place was. Russia had the coldest recorded temperature at – 67 degrees Celsius. BRRRRRRRR.

In English we looked at a new Greek myth called The Dolphin Boy. We were able to get into the mind of the main character, Arion and write a diary as if we were him.

In History we were looking at the different types of weapons the Ancient Greeks used in battle. We learnt that a Greek soldier was actually called a Hoplite.

This week year 4 have been looking at number lines to 10,000 in maths. We have found this quite tricky at times but have worked very hard.

In English we have been continuing our work on Icarus and completed our newspaper reports on the story. We were even able to type them up today and will get them published (printed) on Monday.

In Science this week Mrs Mansel from Moorside came in again and challenged us to create different circuits, such as creating a circuit with two bulbs and a switch that would only turn one bulb off!

In History this week we have been learning about the Battle of Marathon. We have learnt lots of key facts but we most enjoyed the recreation of the battle outside on the playground. I wouldn’t want to be invaded by these!
